IDEALIZE YOURSELF

Christian from Basic shone in his debut for Rad SS 09Christian from Basic shone in his debut for Rad SS 09

"To keep the tedium of casting interesting I usually make up a kind of movie in my mind to help sharpen the filter. Last season I played Aphex Twins "Logon Rock Witch" all session long in my head as my kind of dream soundtrack that all the witch girls were gliding to. This season its Grace Jones' "Walking In The Rain" to which I'm dreaming of an army of sleek, shiny, aerodynamic people all angular and machine-like, like cyborgs but deeply deeply individualized. Boys and girls...the same feeling with different complexions...shifting features....That's my fiction for Rad SS09."

THE SOCIAL CLIMBERS GUIDE TO THE ANTI-HAMPTONS: SUNSET BEACH HOTEL

The best use of yellow and white striped awning since Giorgio Beverly HillsThe best use of yellow and white striped awning since Giorgio Beverly Hills

TI wants to enormously thank Neal Hamil at Elite for turning us on to the very excellent Sunset Beach Hotel on Shelter Island. If you hate the Hamptons but need the escape (and boy was this a weekend that made escape necessary) the Sunset Beach is a brilliant reprieve. Created (and impeccably curated) by Andre Balazs, this laid back Long Island destination features only 20 guest rooms, all with sun decks and a stunning bay view, as well as an excellent restaraunt . A whip smart staff, an unpretentious, laid back vibe and the best use of a white and yellow striped awning since Giorgio's Beverly Hills, TI was turned...so to speak .

Pablo Ravazzani Photographs Rad Hourani F/W 2008

By 1.30 pm, Fri Feb 8th, the Fall/Winter 2008 Rad Hourani was done. Rad, Hung Vanno (make-up and emotional motivation) Nicholas Grasa (stylist ) and their team had worked relentlessly hard on crafting a very dedicated vision. As its casting director I'm too close to deliver any kind of critical verdict on it, but I do know I apreciate Rad's indulgence in allowing a daring follow through on an exclusive engagement for Sunniva and a newcomer I considered to be a beautiful bookend, Camille to walk the show. I also loved the loyalty Rad as a newcomer inspired in prompting agents to give him two other girls, Rena and Kathleen also for his show in NY only. Behind the scenes there was lots of drama and screaming and... uhmm moments of "coming together" on my part. In that regard I'd like to extend my total gratitude to first and foremost, Paul Rowland and the team at Supreme and to Karina @ IMG, Michael Schwartz @ Women, Heinz Holba, George and Christopher @NY Models, Neal Hamil and Roman @Elite, Tammy @Next, Duane@ Trump, Sonny@One, Cheri@Marilyn and David @ Major. A big shout out goes to MDC's Betty Sze who was invaluable the entire week. I also am grateful to TI's latest contributing photographer, Pablo Ravazzani for snapping these backstage pics. They allowed me to see the clothes with a clean and clear new eye. I think they are incredibly appropriate as the photographic style of Pablo's pictures is totally in sync with the graphic precision that drives Rad's work .

The Social Climbers Guide To Paris Fashion Week: Post Party Post

Ms Coco Rocha: winner of the Best Brand Narrative Award at the TI dinner!Ms Coco Rocha: winner of the Best Brand Narrative Award at the TI dinner!

I was standing somewhere in the massive stone sprawl of The Louvre late last night when this American friend of mine, now living in Paris smashed one of the city's last remaining illusions into fragments. “You do know, don't you that a lot of Paris' architecture is faux. In the 18th century they made a lot of changes to the 17th century buildings. In the 19th they adjusted aspects of the 18th and today they preserve, preserve, preserve. But when they preserve and restore they use 21th century materials. So you're not looking at anything exactly the way it was. The whole core of the city is a face-lift.” True or not, what my friend taught me though was useful and it was useful for fashion. Because now as I sit a CDG waiting to my flight back to NY,( back to that all that restless, ruthless modernity that preserves very little), it occurs to me that a city can infect your creative process.

JOUISSANCE : A/K/A SYSTEM OVERLOAD

Ugo Rondinone: "The Third Mind" Exhibit: Palais de Tokyo: ParisUgo Rondinone: "The Third Mind" Exhibit: Palais de Tokyo: Paris

New York couldn't do it. Whatever the information overload that comes with NY Fashion Week, it was still possible to keep TI's output flowing. But the convergence in Paris of a Fashion Week, tonight's Nuit Blanche and a sporting extravaganza (a Rugby World Cup) has this staid and monumental city crackling with a dynamic energy that made us pass out. It was there first and foremost at Rad Hourani's unveiling this morning in a little gallery on a side street of The Marais. I went prepared to be polite and encouraging and then left shaking from the completeness of vision on the part of one so young. When Vogue Italia cover girl, Meghan Collison stalked out in jet black, hair in the face, head down , purposefully marching , that was it! Jouissance! If you missed it, you missed history. We begged Rad afterwards to bring that complete vision to NY next season. I don't want to over-talk what I saw. I snapped tons of pictures and as soon as I download them onto a disc I want you to see the images over at OTM on MDC for yourself
