I'm in absolute love with the current post on Women Mgmt's new blog (http://womenmanagement.blogspot.com/) where James Tinnelly does a brilliant and incisive read on the Eva Mendes edit in the May Vogue Italia. This is what he had to say on the shoot that reveled in the kinky joys of a coral nail under a sheer stocking. Vive the fetishists!

Courtesy of Mr Joseph Bleu, TI received these snaps of one of our favorite new male models, Christian at Basic, photographed by the very enterprising young photographer, Shameer Kahn. I love that these two kids of the same generation conspired to take such fresh and relaxed pictures. Portrait of a generation methinks!

Oh how the world spins and the hiss thins.. It seems every last bit of goss here gets picked up and amplified faster than the speed of scandal. Like just seconds ago I was prepping a post in anticipation of picking up the image of a impending new cover. The image you see would have been the scoop. Seems TI jumped the gun . Apologies all around . But we will not abandon the cause. The next challenge for The Squad is to decipher that previously buzzed Vogue Paris cover event. The issue is said to be "very French" as in defiantly so. Two very French models were booked. One who for years was an iconic face for a venerable designer, the other a tremendously beautiful girl who rose to a more mass market kind of stardom. Will it be both? The one? The other? In any case it seems the directional kids have grown tired of those damn anonymous editorial faces. In a very sustained way. Which brings us to that All American editorial beauty who is about to enter paparazzi heaven. Smart girl. She knows the future is not celebrity vs model, but rather "the-model-as-celebrity". It can be done! It can be done!

Well today has been all about the last minute inspiration. I've been weeping to the Hiss Squad that I'm facing the SS09 Men's shows with a sense of dread. I can already see the knobby knees in baggy linen shorts rolled up three times for that "editorial" look. What is happening to menswear I've been wondering? Why is it so moribund next to the dynamic breakthroughs we saw in womenswear for FW 08. Well via this really great new blog, http://royboticsteez.blogspot.com/, I stumbled across the work of Ute Ploier. It is a very familiar vocabulary (given than Ute was trained by Raf Simons) but backtracking through the season's there seems to be a very interesting signature evolving through the line. It happens on those more "off"/unwearable" pieces. Ute shows in Paris and what I love about the work of Austrian designer is the way she chooses to explore the tension between street/sportswear and tailored pieces. We'll be watching her SS09 show with avid interest.

Every morning I wake up and ask myself the question "Well...What do you believe in today?". Pumping out TI over the past 8 months has forced to me to look all around for inspiration. But sometimes I run dry . This afternoon I got an email from Kayode Ojo from Tennessee who's headed to SVA to study photography this fall, KO wrote :

"I saw this and I thought of TI. The blog is fascinating. It keeps me sane. People in Tennessee are like "What's Balenciaga?"

I checked out KO's recommendation and was speechless. It was a MAJOR thing. Here it is for your viewing pleasure. Thanks so much KO. I'm emailing you after posting this!

Directional Hollywood...is there such a thing? Eva Mendes is the May cover of Vogue Italia (looking very Shana Zadrick) , Mariah the June face of London's ID. Is the double whammy of these mega-mainstream babes a fluke or the recession-proof wave of the future? Are old school super-models and new era super-celebs the way to keep the numbers buzzing and the product moving? And what will V and Vogue Paris have to say about this state of affairs. As for TI, we're so confused we're hightailing it back to LA as soon as possible. Because that would be very directional.

PS. Props to WWD for making SURE the VI cover news was scooped by them first and no other forces. But the Hiss Squad won't be caught sleeping next time.
