HUMAN, ALL TOO HUMAN : A JOE BRADLEY COMPLEX

Pop Art meets Greco-Roman sculpture meets The Bangles’ video of pop hit “Walk like an Egyptian.”Pop Art meets Greco-Roman sculpture meets The Bangles’ video of pop hit “Walk like an Egyptian.”

"There has never been much evidence of work in Joe Bradley`s art, and therein resides much of its signification. The individual units of Bradley`s paintings have always been literally blank and, more significantly, militantly haphazard. With his works` scabrous, cheap surfaces; his "casualness" concerning proper leveling and hanging; and his ambivalent (if not antagonistic) attitude toward the conventionally stretched canvas, Bradley falls somewhere between a heroic practitioner of "grunge art" and a loafer."

"It was the first time I had ever truly saw in action art and politics come together in a moving way."

URS FISCHER'S MONUMENTAL WIT

Urs Fischer takes it thereUrs Fischer takes it there

Cultural analysis, catharsis, shamanistic insight , technical prowess...there are many a contemporary artist who employ these aspects in constructing their art. TI loves all that mixed with visual wit. As such I really regret missing Urs Fischer's event at the Gavin Brown gallery where he created a crater in the middle of the space. So much came to mind ... escavation sites, Ground Zero, the perpetual state of construction Manhattan seems to be going through. Talk about felt metaphor! I'm going through a moment of fascination with art that destroys space and defiles the sanctimoniousness of the immaculate gallery context. Let's hope a major institution gives Fischer a chance to restage the concept.

Mr Briscoe was here, there and everywhere this month in his tireless quest to chronicle the New York Art Scene. Here are his highlights from the star-studded Yinka Shonibare and the Elizabeth Peyton openings last Thursday and Friday in NY.

Got into work today to find this little sticky on my desk from the dapper Mr Briscoe.

"Elizabeth Peyton is having an opening on the 18th of April which is next Friday. Marc Jacobs and all the fashionistas will be in attendance. Wayne, I strongly believe this will be great content for The Imagist."

No sooner said than done. See you there!
