CHRISTIAN DUBOSSE BY SHAMEER KHAN

CHRISTIAN DUBOSSE PHOTOGRAPHED BY SHAMEER KHANCHRISTIAN DUBOSSE PHOTOGRAPHED BY SHAMEER KHAN

Courtesy of Mr Joseph Bleu, TI received these snaps of one of our favorite new male models, Christian at Basic, photographed by the very enterprising young photographer, Shameer Kahn. I love that these two kids of the same generation conspired to take such fresh and relaxed pictures. Portrait of a generation methinks!

IRINA BY JUAN ALGARIN

Irina: One Mgmt: Photographed by Juan AlgarinIrina: One Mgmt: Photographed by Juan Algarin

My phone just rang. A voice said "Wayne Sterling. This is your past" I thought. "Oh Lord. I'm about to be arrested". It was photographer Juan Algarin on the line. Juan and I used to play together on shoots about 8 years ago when I fancied myself a stylist. We reminisced about how crazy we were in those days...absolutely fearless...absolutely free...hanging Paul Rowland's niece upside down above Theresa Lourenco at Pier 59. Shooting Kwame in Helmut Lang biker trousers with the fly open. Shooting Aaliyah for a cover portrait ..with her eyes closed. Well Juan and I are going to catch up on Weds to plot working together again and I'm very excited. He sent me these snaps of Irina from 1 literally 5 mins ago. I uploaded them right that instant.

Vision and Empathy: The Work Of Kikuko Usuyama

The work of photographer Kikuko UsuyamaThe work of photographer Kikuko Usuyama

I've worked virtually every month for two years now with photographer Kikuko Usuyama on assignment for Spur magazine shooting virtually every cool young model who comes onto the market. Yet I've never known the full spectrum of her work until she showed me these portraits she did of an 83 year old shamen.

The Kids Are Alright!

Shameer Khan snaps Salieu JallohShameer Khan snaps Salieu Jalloh

18 year old Red fledgling Salieu Jalloh from Sierra Leone posed in front of lens of 18 year old photographer Shameer Khan and the results were beautiful. There something about these pics with the everyday wear and perfectly calculated casualness that remind me of that legendary Corrine Day shoot with Kate (Not to infer Salie is a new boy Kate or Shameer, a Corrine ). It' s very high school kids hanging out in a New York City park snapping shots of each other and I adore the truth of that. This is a testament to the ideal of picking up the camera and bravely expressing your viewpoint. Tracking down Mr Khan's contact info to give him due props!

Well a little bird (Jason @the Greg Kadel studio) told us that Playboy France was about to become a big must-buy on those over-crowded newstands. He sure was right. Let us all stand back and get into this Anna Arendshorst cover as shot by Ben Hassett. Tres hot!

I love photo-festivals. If only to dream. I mean they got Martin Parr on the premises. It ought to be fun, right?

LOU DOILLON CAN DO NO WRONG

Sometimes I much prefer the French idea of celebrity. And sexiness. Witness the iconic Lou Doillon for French Playboy.

RISING FORCES: EMERGING SOURCES

Photography by Michael SchwartzPhotography by Michael Schwartz

I've got to give Michael Schwartz credit for persistence and passion. I've watched his photography evolve bit by bit, but its clear he has a really good eye. For months he's been trying to engage me to help him on the concepts and the art direction of his shoots. I've been very reluctant because I feel I'm at the point where I should finesse one certain skill- writing - and not be a such dilettante art-director ( Or even worse, yet-another-stylist.)
In any case a few months ago I emailed Mike some references on 80's illustrator Tony Viramontes to play with for a shoot he was lensing. I also popped into the shoot, which for the record had a stylist. I tried to verbalize how Viramontes' illustrations were perfect for translation into photography and didn't really require a massive use of labels to get the point across. Well, sometimes words fail you and on this day they failed me. So I started wrapping some fabric I had found in this African fabric store on 37th Street on the models as turbans and little cloaks to illustrate, literally, the point. Mike liked it and snapped some shots of the results.
