Snapped as a styling note: Angelina: Elite rocks boy gear as girl gear

This week's been as mad and hectic like it were Fashion Week...including Memorial Day when Mike Schwartz ...shall we say manipulated the variables so that I ended up styling this lovely lass of an Elite newcomer for one of his shoots. Angelina is mostly wearing stuff out my closet, including a vintage Dior Homme jacket and sweatshirt and a pair of Hood By Air shorts. The shoes I assure you are not mine however. Though Shayne tells me there is a flock of new downtown boys...pumping it in pumps. God bless!

Alison Nix: Women: PH: Michael Schwartz

Something beautiful and sultry coils around Alison in this snap by Mike. This weekend I drag a whole pile of Hood By Air gear to the country for a shoot with Schwartz . He's so persuasive, which is a great trait in a photographer.

I've got to give Michael Schwartz credit for persistence and passion. I've watched his photography evolve bit by bit, but its clear he has a really good eye. For months he's been trying to engage me to help him on the concepts and the art direction of his shoots. I've been very reluctant because I feel I'm at the point where I should finesse one certain skill- writing - and not be a such dilettante art-director ( Or even worse, yet-another-stylist.)
In any case a few months ago I emailed Mike some references on 80's illustrator Tony Viramontes to play with for a shoot he was lensing. I also popped into the shoot, which for the record had a stylist. I tried to verbalize how Viramontes' illustrations were perfect for translation into photography and didn't really require a massive use of labels to get the point across. Well, sometimes words fail you and on this day they failed me. So I started wrapping some fabric I had found in this African fabric store on 37th Street on the models as turbans and little cloaks to illustrate, literally, the point. Mike liked it and snapped some shots of the results.

One day last Fall, photog Michael Schwartz rang me up to come hang out at a shoot . "Are you insane?" I replied. "Its a SATURDAY!" " Its with Natasa V," he explained. I dropped the phone and called a car service. I love Natasa V and I love watching her work. Which is what she did at this shoot. What she gave to the camera was so epic I had to pull out the Flip and record. It was like watching a rock star put it down. She also told me the funniest story about a Helmut Newton casting experience she once had. Let's just say Newton's conduct was all the things you would expect of Newton but that told me what a smart model NV really is to understand the historic ramification of a booking like that . NV's new crop via Guido is killer. I'm absolutely in awe of Natasa's current edits in V and W which to my mind proves that she is one of the best models of the Zeroes and well on her way to legendary. IMHO lol. I can't wait to see all the other stunning work she has in store for us this season.

Late last year I had the fun opportunity to hang out with Toni Garrn while interviewing her for Spur Japan. It was just me and my shaky hand-held Flip, Toni and the natural light spilling through the windows of Women offices in NY. In this clip Toni describes the moment she found out she would be the face of Calvin Klein SS08. Now here's a girl that million dollar dreams are made of.
