There are more self-consciously opulent hotels in India (the Taj Lake Palace also in Udaipur , for instance) and more historic ones ( Taj Falaknuma Palace, in Hyderabad, former home to the Nizam of Hyderabad). What I love about The Oberoi Udaivilas is the graphic excellence of its design as played against the astonishing beauty of its setting.
