You survived last week's art groupie take-over in NY. Now gear up for what promises to be a vivid look at the LA Art scene starting next weekend. Everybody's going to be at Honor Fraser's on Saturday so make that your rendezvous point. TI is also happy to see the Black Frame crew really elevating the art-promo game. For more details check out laartweekend.com.

The new work space needs a calendar as this year seems to be on rapid fast forward. Maintaining my current Manuel Raeder fetish I adore this very abstract calender system he created in 2006. Ti is totally going to replicate it. With all credit due to the originator.
The idea is to fix nails in distances of 12 cm in your wall and hang sheets according to your preference. The hanging system allows you to constantly re-arrange your months. Hot!

Question. If as hiss has it, Claudia is Chanel FW 08 and Naomi YSL with Kate set to log her inevitable 4-pack of camps, where does that leave today's mob of bright eyed newcomers? The magazines are awash with Top Newcomers edits. V must do one. German Vogue has one pending and the new incarnation of Interview under Karl Templer's stewardship kicks off with a visual ode to today's Top New Stars but these girls will not be populating the blue chip campaigns this season from the look of things.

Off to see the Daan Van Golden show which I hear is brilliant. Golden is a figurehead in his native Holland and this exhibition represents his first US show. Billed as an "artist's artist" this work is said to be in the centuries long tradition of Dutch painting. I'm really attracted to the idea of this artist in his choice of "non-inventive" imagery. The idea is Golden takes his cues from decorative fabrics and paper and play with them into a even greater degree of abstraction. I've been thinking a lot about fonts and how to to take classic types and subvert them without losing their clarity. Golden's paintings promise to be rich visual food.

Strangely enough, among the circle of artists I've been hanging with, Yoko Ono has been coming up as a major reference and a powerful influence. My pal Jayson Keeling suggested that I do a post on her. I took a meeting with Shayne from Hood By Air and he brought up Ono out of nowhere as an influence on his personal style. That led me to a train of thought in trying to place exactly what Yoko Ono means to my generation. Is she the cool muso who dropped that immortal track "Walking On Thin Ice" on an unsuspecting audience. Or is she simply one of Japan's preeminent avant-garde artists. Her work as an artist went through tropes that included film, photography, installation, performance and in a manner of speaking, protest. In film school I became aware of one of her short films, "Fly" which featured the eponymous fly crawling around a woman's nipple. What's interesting about Ono's montage of identities and forms is it forms the narrative of a woman moving through life and evolving several different selves.

This is an urgent bulletin to all the agents/artists/curators/publicists/promoters/photographers out there. I'm putting an APB out for the chicest, smartest hippest young assistant this side of the Atlantic. The ideal candidate should be fashion mad (know every designer/model/magazine/editor/stylist in sight), tech savvy (Photo-shop skills are crucial) with strong writing skills. If you have a brilliant sense of style, chill at all the best new parties and can entertain TI with tons of trend notes daily then there's a job waiting for you. That said, it is a very intense, high-pressure and fast paced position requiring a lot of discipline to meet the non-stop deadlines and the demanding quality control of all those high strung perfectionists that will surround you everyday. If you're up for it (or have lead on someone who is) please shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
P.S...Proof reading skills are a big plus.
