My friend Florian, recently landed at Boss Models and has been calling earnestly about setting up a tete a tete with David Bosman for MDC. Lots of people have strong opinions about David Bosman but I think he has one of the great creative minds in the modeling industry. For that reason I feel compelled to sit down with him and let him tell the story of his travel through the fashion industry. I'm sure it would make for a very dramatic and glamorous film.
Tears of the original :Marion Wommble
Here's an example of Bosman's talent for imaging. He took this beautiful kid, Sy and had his hair redone in the spirit of a great 70's African-American male model named Marion Wommble. Now Sy has bookings flying toward him at warp speed. Its going to be a very interesting talk methinks.

David Bosman
I have known David for too many years to actually publish. He became a friend, a client, my boss (and oh how bossy he can be!) and my friend again. I remember David asking me to look over the plan for this new business....Boss...it was brillant. The business created change and it was built with David's authentic style. You know when Bosman is in the house, everything feels a little more fabulous. And his eye for talent was not relegated to models only. He saw and can see what is capable by all the agents that have passed thorugh the hallowed halls of Boss, He gave them space to grow and respected their vision...altough one always knows David opinions. I won't name them all but the most gifted in the industry. Almost all, even those that started with David, are still in the business and flourishing. AND despite the fact that working with David can be...electric....every one is happy to hear him on the other side of the phone line. Despite all the changes the industry has seen since Boss began, David is still here. Boss is still here!!David I hope we remain friends for the next @# years. All my vey best! XO

David "The Boss" Bosman
David Bosman Was My "Boss" For Many, Many Years, But Is & Will Alway Remain One Of My Closest Friends & Allies.
I Have Nothing But Great Admiration & Respect For The Modeling Industry's MOST Creative & Talented Gentleman; A Man That Came To NY From London & Started An "Empire" From Scratch.
With His Insight, His Foresight, & His Innate Determination, He Changed The Male Model Fashion Industry Forever.
I So Enjoyed My Years At Boss Models As The Former Director, Both In NY & London.
I Learned So Very Much From David, Helping To Shape The Person I Am Today.
He Gave Me The Courage To Do Things In My Life That I Would Never Have Done On My Own.
He Introduced "The World" To Me In Many Ways.
For This I Will Always Be Grateful.
To The Man, To The Legend, To The Future.. Cheers To You David!
Love Always,

I worked in Miami for Irene Marie during the boom years, Versace, Ocean Drive, the overly cumbersome production crews "when permits were $15.00", and most agencies worked out of hotel rooms, which was the Century Hotel for me, my favorite. I created the little monster Jason Kanner, who was my assistant and i tortured him in a very german anal retentive way.I worked with George Speros , my favorite mountain goat and Sarah Hamilton Bailey and Maria Lombardi, who are still my best friends today. Thanks Irene for bringing us all together. I met with David who had a vision Cape Town South Africa would be the new St Tropez/Miami. That was 2 years after Nelson Mandela became president of South Africa in 1994. There were no other international agencies here at the time when Andrea Lion and I arrived. We celebrated our 10th year anniversary at Boss Models Cape Town last May, and still we are the only international agency here!. David is talented on many levels, and we love him as much as our Asbury Luggage. I agree with Kanner "He's very Harry Belafonte "and I would say Boss Models has been his Carmen. I truly respect and admire David for his innovative and progressive approach. His creative expression is unique and wonderful! He always created from the future, not the past!
All the best, your german dinosaur ,Nicole Brandt ,Cape Town South Africa
Where did Boss go?
Who are all you children?? I ask my old self.? Show some respect here.Whats all this talk of Boss Models being back? I had no idea that it ever went away? Can someone advise me. Boss is like an institution right? I know that David Bosman is a warrior type (and I am not refering to his outfits in the heyday of the Roxy on the themed nights) but she (David) is one of the strongest old Lesbians that I know. I doubt she would have ever thrown in the towel, well except maybe at little David Bartons Gym (but that's a w h o l e different story children..and your all much to young and we wont be going there).
Stand proud girl (I know you can!!) (and we aint goin there either sister).
2 snaps and a circle for you Davide. Uh Hu.

I had a very big surprise just 2 week ago hearing back from David after a long time,a very remarkable person in the models business."Glad to find you back again David".A very great prelude for a sincere feeling into the business.

On set with David Bosman
AN AVANTGUARDIAN,A STYLE SETTER, PERHAPS A MAN WITH MANY A VISION. "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN PLEASE PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER FOR DAVID BOSMAN!" (this is so "this is your life" isnt it).
I first met David back in the mid nineties in Bergdorfs when he was having the biggest dilemma ever faced by man-what to buy. He had just decided to purchase a jacket (after trying on about 18!) that matched his shoes, pants and T-shirt. Finally he decided on this Romeo Gigli number (It was all about the way the jacket moved when you slid your hands in the front pockets of your pants whilst giving a 3/4 look to the mirror-with lips pursed!). I watched in awe as he sighed and pondered his next quest-what sunglasses to get!!
Jacket on,jeans adjusted he tried on pair after pair-glasses strategically hung from the collar of the T shirt,a sort of 'action look' with them placed on his forehead whilst giving a sharp turn to camera..I meant to say mirror.Hands in pockets-one hand in pocket, hand on side of head (his reportior of poses would have put Linda Evangelista to shame!).
Just when he was about to approve his purchase he asked a young female sales assistant what she thought-she politely replied "wow you look great, like a guy from the J-Crew catalog!"-...I swear I saw steam coming out of Davids ears, with that he raised his voice slightly and said "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!"-took off the glasses, took off the jacket (ever so gracefully) muttered "this isnt going to work" and "what the f**k does she know"-"f**king J-Crew my arse" and left the store (just like Linda would have left a studio after finding out it was a 3 girl story with no approval on the other girls) with taste and dignity in tact but very shaken if not stirred.
I just thank god that it didnt get to the matching of the cologne stage-could you imagine that one!! As far as I am concerened David will always be "ON SET" no matter where or when.
She's fabulous!!

David's creation of the male supermodel opened up a world unknown to me which ultimately led me to photography. David graciously accepted my job application 11 years ago to learn how to book models. I now have my studio in Boss Models Cape Town. Job offers were frequent, but what kept me where I am now, is the style, allure and importance David singularly created around male models in general. David also takes beautiful pictures, which I love to look at. I believe he understands the principle that simplicity is beautiful. Making something of sparse elements is his forté, and keeping it current is his motto; ideals I try to follow to this day. To me David is an icon of this industry. Think what you will, David is a kind man, a clever man and most of all a passionate man. Brilliance is intimidating to most people, but to me it is a force which needs to be embraced and utilised to make this world a little more interesting. Mission accomplished David.. Byron L. BOSMAN
Well...........it has been 18 years since I first arrived in New York City, bright eyed, bushy tailed and yes naive; Uncle David took me under his wing and several continents later I was back in the New York office listening to the endless barrage of praise - how great David’s style is, what a wonderful person he is etc etc etc. For some this quietly murmured, others would speak with knives hidden within their sleeves. Of course everyone would watch: waiting, wanting, wondering . Well…..he is still here, still doing “his thing” and still doing it with style, charisma and passion.
Oh, and he is still looking great, with amazing skin (thanks to RéVive Skincare)

I too for worked for David-we did part company in a way I wish we didnt.Last year I was on vacation in Switzerland and I was at my chalet with Claudia,Naomi and Kate. We were all having a fabulous time when my cell phone rang and it was a male model that I once started (who became a huge campaign boy) that was looking to re brand himself in the NY market. We spoke for ages whilst I roasted marshmellows with the girls and drank hot wine. After suggesting several agencies to my ex star he didnt want to speak with anyone apart from David Bosman, I nearly choked on my marshmellow as I was thinking the exact same thing. I think if a boy needs great management,a new look-maybe a new haircut, change of wardrobe or some basic style advice- and then be hurled up the ranks faster than I can say'thats your last marshmellow Kate as you have a shoot in 2 days! (at the time she had a shoot with M & M (who I have to call) for Donna' then David Bosman is your man. David is a creative genius and I owe quite a bit of my personal style to him. David IS fabulous (but not as Naomi in her Versace apres ski outfit ) and I wish David all the best and I am there for him is she needs anything. Thanks David.

LOL!
I love you Nigel Prembroke Sloan because you got Claudia Schiffer and Kate Moss in the same chalet at the same time. Kissinger would be jealous!

ONE OF MY FONDEST DAVID BOSMAN MEMORIES

I HAD BOOKED THIS NEW GIRL ANNALEENA FOR ITALIAN VOGUE WITH ARTHUR ELGORT
IT WAS TO BE A HUGE STORY WITH A THEN BRAND NEW BRIDGET HALL
IT WAS A LAST MINUTE CONFIRMATION AND WE HAD TO FLY HER ON THE CONCORDE FOR THE SITTING
WHEN SHE WALKED IN TO THE BOSS OFFICES, THE DAY BEFORE THE BOOKING (TO BE KIND, )SHE DIDNT LOOK EXACTLY AS HER PICS LED US TO BELEIVE.(WE THOUGHT WE HAD FOUND THE NEXT KATE MOSS, LOL)
WHEN SHE LEFT TO GO TO THE MODEL APARTMENT..DAVID GLANCED AT ME, AND WE JUST STARTED LAUGHING OUT LOUD " WE ARE RUINED" LOL LAUGHING SO HARD FALLING TO OUR KNEES FOR A BIG 20 MINUTES. TEARS ROLLING DOWN OUR FACS. HAVING THE BIGGEST LAUGH EVER.
ARTHUR LOVED THE GIRL, THE STORY WAS BEAUTIFUL THE GIRL WENT ON TO SHOOTING BAZAAR WITH LINDBERGH, SPANISH VOGUE COVER, MARIE CLAIRE WITH MARC HISPARD AND TONS OF GERMAN, ITALIAN, BRITISH VOGUE AND ELLE. BUT WE WERE CONVINCED WE WERE DONE FOR. BUT IN STEAD OF PANICING WE LAUGHED. IT WAS A FUN MOMENT.

I have been working with David Bosman for little more than a year and I am constanly inspired on both a professional and personal level. You would be painstakingly hard pressed to find a mind whose ideas & methods are so valuable, original and worthwhile. Mind you they have held true over the test of time.
