A hidden treasure ...a discrete gem...a venerable institution favored by everyone from the Belgian bourgeoise to visiting rock stars, De Witte Lelie is iconic for its style and service. I've yet to encounter a New York hotel, or for that matter an American institution that pulls off the mix of an opulent setting with the high design dazzle that De Witte Lelie masters.

With only 11 rooms and suites, this small hotel is a consolidation of three 17th century canal houses joined together and given a thorough restoration. The very good bones of the space is one thing ( high ceilings with gorgeous ornamental crown moldings, original marble fireplaces, hard wood floors) but that impeccable and invisible service is what makes De Witte Lelie inimitable. May they NEVER franchise this unique experience.
