DemonloverDemonlover is a 2002 technological neo-noir thriller by French writer/director Olivier Assayas
This scene, of a corporate team winging its way back from Tokyo ( in first class of course) is composed of
29 shots alternating between the fluid and the staccato , between jump cuts and the handheld .
It mixes Resnais style depth of field compositions with machine gun rapid edits and all the time the audio of the ghostly hum of the forward propulsion of the airplane and that cold blue fluorescent lighting creates a highly orchestrated sense of suspense.
Devoid of music, with noticeably flat affect naturalism in its acting, Demonlover's plotline is a hi-tech redux of the very French literary penchant for intrigue and comeuppance, delivered with deadly cool high style.
