Eternally, Totally Rad

Rad Hourani's new website is way inspirationalRad Hourani's new website is way inspirational

Just before running off for a weekend break TI caught up with our much adored Rad Hourani for dinner at L'Express on Park Avenue South . Au courant L'Express is not but we always end up holed in a corner both for hours, excitedly spraying ideas back and forth. Rad was in town for a presentation to V Magazine as well as to lay the intricate groundwork for his FW 08 show. And yes kids, he's showing in NY this Feb, which we think is awesome, primarily because the NY showscape has been so flat recently. Subsequent to his Top 10 Newcomer slot on style.com, we suspect there will be a lot of blue chip presence at this show eagerly sizing up the new cool kid on the block. It has been a high velocity series of weeks for Rad since his Paris show in October with rising star stylists (Alastair McKim : ID magazine), blue chip speciality stores,(Holt Renfew in Canada) celebrities (Iman, interestingly enough) and socialites flocking to the Rad Hourani cause. And then there was that inevitable call from a certain luxury conglomerate to suss out what this Rad might be about. We shot the breeze for a while, with Rad whipping up brilliant stories about party nights with Gareth Pugh and Terence Koh in London while turning me onto a beautifully curated new mag called nomenusquarterly (more later) that just gave him a multitude of pages. Rad broke down his aesthetic turn for Fall/Winter which I can't wait to see actualized in the form of clothing. I love too, the team work being forged between Rad and Hung Vanngo, the super-talented young make-up artist currently cutting an impressive path through all the fresh fashion bibles. We talked about which slot on that last Friday of show week is best (nobody wants to be near the Marc Jacobs which will probably have 250 girls on hold right till Fri morning). And then we got down to the nitty gritty. I confirmed that I'd love to cast that Rad Hourani FW 08 show with a formula of fresh, fresh, fresh, focusing on the girls who were Rad's personal and emotional ideal. I realized Rad had a very specific vision of his clothes as being luxurious , detailed and obsessively finished and you know what? Its all about finding the girls who express this. I'm very excited to be doing this gig and I love interfacing with Rad's prismic, multi-disciplinary talent. You can just see how visionary the guy is via his recently launched website radhourani.com. Viva the new generation!

Taste is a dictatorship.
