LA LA's RETAIL RAMPAGE

I would kill your cat for this KAWS/Commes des Garcons collaboration wallet!I would kill your cat for this KAWS/Commes des Garcons collaboration wallet!

The last three weeks have seen LA going through a major art/ fashion high. Everyone from V Magazine's Todd Eberle to the Paper mag team staging their annual extravaganza of an operation is here right now. Plus a plane-load of Victoria's Secret beauties touch down on Monday afternoon(and kids, there are STILL some surprises on board. Stay tuned!). Marc Jacobs (Chateau), Carine Roitfeld (BHH),

Kanye West (his own damn sky loft), Linda Evangelista, Mr. Murakami, Tracy Emin (BHH), Pat McGrath and Guido (both at The Penninsula) have been dashing in and out of the city's best hotels. Speaking of our ubiquitious Japanese cultural icon, I just got back from the Murakami MOCA exhibit and as I've been promising , skipped the actual show (not a fan) and went straight for the this-exhibit-only Vuitton boutique to nab one of the limited edit LV wallets as a souvenir of sorts. My Dior I-pod wallet is on its last legs these days so I need to replace. But once I saw the girly-pop of the LV thing...the candy pattern with the cartoon mushroom...I just couldn't do it.

Then I went back to my room and via Scott Lipp's blog discovered that Commes des Garcons is planning to drop this new KAWS wallet exclusively at Colette in the next few months. This is much more my cup of tea. Thanks Kanye! I also can't wait to see what your top secret limited edition jeans line will look like. Now Paper is doing a "high concept 24 hour department store" from Nov 9-10th . Colette IS one of the participating stores. Do I dare hope that this dream object will be there? Maybe it is a case of greener grass but the LA kids truly are having a shopping bounty right this minute. Balenciaga is set to open up on Melrose and the LA Margiela shop is a must-stop on my current pilgrimage. This is the only city I've actually seen teenaged boys pounding the streets in the Chanel (Homme?) penguin sweaters. THAT is the story right there. Also later this week I'm catching up with a young entreprenuer I adore, Ali Kay to talk to her about her "Keep Me" line. I really like this city. It is fun in a light way. Here's the agenda for some of the upcoming Paper doings.
