YOUNG LONDON CALLING

Hannah Marshall: One of Young London's Most Wanted! Image via pipeline.refinery29.comHannah Marshall: One of Young London's Most Wanted! Image via pipeline.refinery29.com

So George Harvey, this lovely young English photographer who interned two years ago at MDC emails me this morning to give a fast update on all that's crackling in London right this minute. I met George through Tafari Hinds, the very very charismatic Jamaican model turned major London scenester who's now starting to live up to a family tradition by branching into music (His Dad's the immortal Horace Andy) . And that's what I adore about this trade. It just yields the best network of information. More details after the jump.

Music

Stunners International –

Three male models turned DJs are one of the most regular sets at all the London fashion events and top parties in London and Paris.

The Amethyst –

The Amethyst is Tafari’s band name, mixing roots, reggae, rock and electro. He’s played at the prestigious Philosophy festival at Hay and the Art Car Boot Fair in Shoreditch which I explained in the main e-mail. It also looks like he is going to be working with Simon Foxton and Ruth Hogben (from Showstudio) on a video.

Parties

Slave to Fashion -

Slave to Fasion is held in London’s trendy club/restaurant/members bar Beach Blanket Babylon (aka BBB) and is organised by Daniel Lismore and Garham Rabek. Slave to Fashion is basically where all the Boom Box crew went after it closed. There is lots of dressing up, colour, eccentrics, etc.

Le Rogue –

Le Rogue is a secret London club night, which moves venue every month to all areas of central London and Shoreditch. It is only on once a month and the location is only available through word of mouth. Its frequented by fashionistas & models a plenty… always a popular night when you know where it is….

New London Designers

Hannah Marshall –

Probably the biggest up and coming designer over is starting to get tons of press in all the major publications (Vogue, Elle, Dazed, etc) She’s showing at LFW for the first time in September.

Wes Gordon –

Wes is a friend of mine I met while at Tom Ford, he was just awarded the highest honours at St Martins and has been scouted by Oscar de la Renta, however, he has decided to start his own label, definitely someone to look out for. He uses glass in his work…

Saro Schwyzer (Label is just Saro) –

A young designer who used to work at Vivienne Westwood and is now been mentored by most of the heads of design there (in particular a guy called Murry whos head of menswear) He had his first show at last London fashion week.

Publications

Wound Magazine –

Wound, which I told you about in Paris is going really well, there on their 7th issue now.

Stimuli Magazine –

Stimuli is a small avant-garde fashion magazine that is definitely worth a read. It has lots of young ‘fresh’ photographers, stylists, designers, etc on board.

Other News

Tamsin Egerton – Just started shooting for St Trinians 2 and recently features in the COS Campain

Beth Ditto (The Gossip) designing for Evans, which just had the Launch party at Sketch. Kate Moss, Daisy Lowe, Kelly Osbourn, Simon Cowell and others attended.

Coco Sumner (Sting;s Daugther) who starred in last seasons Burberry Campaign, has a band called I Blame Coco set to release first single in September.
