She crafts monochrome paintings, based on photographs from fashion magazines, as well as bronze-cast found objects and figurines with a darkly torqued spirit of distortion. Perhaps that's why Ms Bordahl has found great favor with collectors like Mario Testino and Raf Simons. What moves me about this work is that vintage 30's/40's haze that she modernizes so well. A collaged surrealism (when it was new) , the ghosts of Man Ray , the chiascoro that bleeds into Film Noir..all these elements hover in a spectral way over Brodahl's images.
