A great elegy to Zeroes hipster culture
New York City, the Art Beat, post-recession. Did the hot hype market spit out too many instant art-stars? Who will last and who will fade away very fast? Not Elizabeth Peyton if Gavin Brown has anything to say. That Elizabeth Peyton's work was easy to digest and even easier to buy... If it was replete with that sort of Bleecker Street/ Marc Jacobs cool that made it even hotter as a commodity.... If her subject matter was perfectly mirrored by the audience that flocked to her New Museum extravaganza then that has all served her very very well. Buy this monograph as a kind of souvenir of how fast and hot things got in the Zeroes. It is a very glamorous time capsule.

i used to think Peyton was a talentless climber,till the show you spoke of.I found several of her pieces quite strong ,enough of them to consider her a true painter.I think her best work is yet to come.She has yet to shake off the scenester youth thing .She has yet to ground herself.
