Confession: I have never watched this film with the volume on because somwhere during the first attempt the combination of the squealing Fairlight CMI soundtrack and the bad line delivery by the actors fried my nerve endings. But simply stripped back to the visuals, Liquid Sky is brilliant and a must see for any disciple of the day-glo, NuRave, New Neon club and street culture welling up right now in the late-Zeroes. Nevermind the plot which has something to do with aliens in minature flying saucers feeding off the endorphins emitted from the brains of Early-80's scensters during heroin highs or sexual climax.
Anne Carlisle as "Jimmy" in Liquid Sky
It stars cult- figure Anne Carlisle in the dual roles of a super-blase male model (Jimmy) as well as a naive female model (Margaret). An avant-garde peformer of the time Paula E Sheppard makes an interesting appearance early in the film singing a non-classic "Me and My Rhythm Box". What makes this film a must-see are the club scenes and the faux photo-shoots which are the most fantastic reflection of what passed as cutting edge East Village/New Wave style at the time. There are ideas and inspirations aplenty for hair + make-up as well a runway ready set of angular "constructionist" outits made of acid yellow rubber and fuscia mylar sheeting. Imagine if one of the kids at Marc by Marc gets their hands on this gem. Directed by by Slava Tsukerman, available at Amazon.

Liquid Sky
OMG! TI - I can't BELIEVE you made a posting about "LIQUID SKY". It was one of the first "ALTERNATIVE" movies that I ever saw as a teenager (I think my dad rented it on BETA VIDEO TAPE when I was in the 8th grade). My dad was very progressive (having had a fine arts / architectural degree from UCLA) and exposed me to many amazing movies (Liquid Sky, Caligula, Metropolis, Diva, Blade Runner) and bands (Hiroshima, Jean Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, Nina Hagen, Lena Lovich) which had a major impact in twisting my mind into becoming such a "FASHION FREAK".
All I have to say is that I love the dual characters that Anne Carlisle played, and also the actress that played the lesbian girlfriend of Anne's female character (a.k.a. CHICKENWOMAN), famous for saying "WE'RE GOING TO BERLIN BABY", and also let's not forget the EXTRA-TERRESTIAL "INDIAN"...
I "HEART" you for referencing "LIQUID SKY". All I have to say is that "BIRDS OF A FEATHER - FLOCK TOGETHER"...
XOXO
