Eva Mendes : PH: Steven Meisel: Vogue Italia May 08
I'm in absolute love with the current post on Women Mgmt's new blog (http://womenmanagement.blogspot.com/) where James Tinnelly does a brilliant and incisive read on the Eva Mendes edit in the May Vogue Italia. This is what he had to say on the shoot that reveled in the kinky joys of a coral nail under a sheer stocking. Vive the fetishists!
Mary Howard's set completes the story: this is a woman who has en extensive library - she is sexual and literary. The varied height of the books suggest a women who gets a lot of pleasure from art and from literature. The sunlight reflected from her spotless glass table & vase reveal that she wears her lingerie in the day time - is she wearing it for herself, or for a lover? The artificial flowers in the vase reveal that although she is a woman of leisure, gardening is not one of her passions. Andrew Richardson's chiffon knickers give a dowdy, high waisted silhouette, but their sheerness reveal her light panties and latent naughtiness. The blue satin high heeled open toed mules deliberately reveal that her coral manicure matches her coral pedicure.

Steven is genius-but NOT ORIGINAL:Knock off of Elmer Batters!
UGGGGGGGGH!
All of this DRAMA over this "scandalous" story shot by Steven Meisel with Eva Mendes!
PAAAAAHLLLLLEEZE!
This is NOTHING new....been done a cah-zillion times...and with much more
grit by the original--ELMER BATTERS!
So, as much as I think Steven does great work( thanks to a great team),
I suggest rather than spending the 20 bucks on an issue of Italian Vogue--
you go out and buy some art books by the originals.....
Yeah, yeah...I KNNNNOOOOOOWWW...It's another interpretation and EVERYTHING
is "new again"....but, as with clothing....I prefer to have the original as opposed to
a knock off ANY day!
oh man
not everyone at that certain fashion forum said anything negative about the editorial so keep your "oh I must be the only one who likes it.." stuff to yourself, it's not bad swim in the same direction as long as it is your opinion.
For the editorial, yes i think a model like Lara Stone (who has boobs as well) would have been much better than Eva. Eva does nothing for me as a celebrity and now she is in Italian Vogue? I found that really random but the editorial is nice but it's Steven Meisel for Italian Vogue and I think this is by far not one of his better editorials. Would that be out of Flair, Velvet or another random magazine then it would be a really gorgeous editorial.
I got the fetish vibe and I don't really blame Eva, I blame Meisel because another set would have changed everything.
Lara is White so it's Right!
Well of course Lara would be accepted by your crowd, she's WHITE. Anything darker with boobs would be sent over to Victoria's Secret. If it takes a Latina CELEBRITY to break the mold, then I'm all for Eva!
M is for Meisel, F is for Fetish
It's so funny because I was reading the comments on this editorial over at a certain fashion forum. If this were Freja or Anja, this would be considered gorgeous and artistic. But because it's a full-figured, Latina woman, it's almost alien and threatening. Porn, if you will.
I agree with Tinnely's take on the edit, and I also think Meisel also brilliant in that he continues to be on the cutting edge. A bit of fetish. A bit of Victoria's Secret. It's just going to take a while before the fuller figure and its sexuality gains universal acceptance in high fashion. AGAIN.
i agree as well.i think the
i agree as well.i think the edit is brilliant.i also think eva look's beautiful , a bit like cindy crawford.
